First of all, I want to thank all of you for playing
Disc Golf. I love this game and appreciate all of
you out there getting fresh air, and taking in life
"out of doors".
Second...I'd like all of you to thank the Big Dog
(aka Andrew Sweeton), for all he does to make your
sport, course, and club the absolute best in the
region. Big Dog has fallen in love with this sport
and is an outstanding example of what a father and
friend is and should be.
Take a moment to at least say "thank you". "Thank
You's" cost nothing, but convey so much. (Being in
Heaven...I mean South Carolina for a week, always
reminds me of this. Manners are still important and
sadly lacking everywhere today.)
Thirdly(?), it's time to do something for the
activity you love. Now... we all have busy lives,
but I know there is something each of you can do to
make our club and sport better. Don't wait to be
asked; step up and invite yourself to help. Help run
a tournament, use your God given/or man
trained/learned talents or expertise, volunteer to
empty trash, whatever it is....do it. Our club is
the best group of mixed up people I have ever been
associated with; and they keep evolving (or
mutating) into something better and bigger than they
are. You need to be part of it! One of our members,
gave up his yard for a party twice this
year....although perhaps small in his or your
eyes....this was huge! What can you do? Don't wait
to be asked, challenge yourself. Even a little thing
like cooking for a group of "yahoos" at a Summer
league picnic is big! If all of us can pitch
in....everything is easy! (Except for all the smoke
in your face...the guy that endured this deserves
your thanks too!)
Fourthly...(Is that even a term or real word?)
-Think about others who would enjoy this activity
and invite them to come out and play! We can only
grow bigger with more bodies. Boys, Girls, Moms, and
Dads, we want everyone to experience our sport.
(Especially women)
Last...ly...- if you can't give energy or
time....Give. One of our members can not (or will
not) give his time and energy...but what he can
provide is his $...and he does! "It all comes out
about even", according to him. "Ball golf is much
more time consuming and expensive. Most ball golf
clubs want between $2,000 and $5,000 year + to
belong and play. "Disc golf is worth a few hundred a
year!"
A special "thanks" to all out there helping
already...Wow!.... This year was "off the hook" with
folks who stepped up big time!
Hey, thanks for reading and taking this to heart.
Please do what you can and then ...do some more.
Best regards,
Hobie
